Obituary for Darold George "Pete" Vanderhoff

GARDEN CITY - Darold “Pete” Vanderhoff, of Garden City, KS, died on Monday Oct. 3 at Homestead Health and Rehabilitation. He was born on March 8, 1924, in Alta, Iowa to George and Anna Kluge Vanderhoff.
 
Darold married Jurelle Titshaw in 1948 in Denver, CO; they had two daughters; Donna Johnson of Colorado Springs, CO and Jane Vanderhoff of Garden City.

Darold served in the US Army in Yakima, WA and El Paso, TX.
 
Darold was a technical illustrator/writer and artist, and worked at major aircraft corporations around the US, including Atlanta, Orlando, St. Louis, Dallas, and Ft. Collins, CO.

He was also a craftsman, building toys, furniture, and decorative items, along with landscape painting.  An avid reader, Darold had a large collection of resource books which he took great pleasure in reading.
He continued working at Sears until the age of 85.
 
Jurelle passed away in 1996; Darold married Peggy Ramey Colbert in 1979; she survives.
Darold was preceded in death by his parents, and sisters,  Dorothy May Vanderhoff and  Zelva Clarine Dickinson. He is survived by daughters, Donna Johnson and Jane Vanderhoff, sister, Margil Floy Vanderhoff of Fresno, CA; niece, Elaine Frasca (Carlo, Jeremy) of Snohomish WA; granddaughter, Cindy Wright; great grandchildren, Taylor and Trevor Clanton of Lubbock, TX.  Also special to Darold are Peggy’s children, Edward (Sue) Colbert, Ken (Marilyn) Colbert, Diane (Mike) Ojile and Steve Colbert, along with their children and great grandchildren.
 
Memorial Service will be held Wednesday, October 5, 2016,  at Grace Bible Church in Garden City, 2595 Jennie Barker Rd. at 7:00 pm.
