Obituary for James Dean Seba Sr.

SYRACUSE - James Dean “Jim” Seba, Sr., 79, died Wednesday, October 24, 2018, at his home in Syracuse, Kansas. He was born August 22, 1939, to Violet Ledora (Rasmussen) and Henry George Seba in Tribune, Kansas. He married Sophia Eleanor “Ellie” Gutierrez on April 8, 1961, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Tribune, Kansas.

Jim was a member and served as a Deacon at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church while living in Tribune and continued serving in the same role at the First Christian Church of Syracuse.

Jim was his happiest when working side by side with his wife. Together they worked at the Greeley County School and managed Tribune Bowl. He took pride in taking care of several golf courses in the area with his wife's help. He also loved farming and treasured time spent at the farm with his grandsons.

In their younger years Jim and Ellie enjoyed square dancing, playing cards, and time spent with family and friends. He enjoyed watching sports and was an avid fan of the Chiefs, Jayhawks, and particularly the KC Royals.

Jim had a passion for golf! He and Ellie golfed from Colorado to Arkansas and Nebraska to Texas winning many tournaments over the years. He loved golfing with his wife, children, and grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife Ellie of 57 years and daughter, Marla Howell of the home; his three sons, James Seba Jr. (Ann) of Conway Springs, Ks, Todd Seba (Shelly) of Pratt, Ks, Matthew Seba (April) of Tonganoxie, Ks; brothers, Gary Seba (Ann) of Lubbock, Tx, Norman Seba of Kansas City, Ks; sisters, Donna Murphy of Hulbert, Ok, Viola Jordan of Oregon; twelve grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents Hank and Violet; brothers, Valdo, Dwayne, and Don; and sisters, Delores, Valeta, and Bertha.

Cremation was entrusted to Weeks Family Funeral Home & Crematory of Sublette. The family will celebrate his life on Memorial Day weekend 2019.
