Obituary for Martha Ellen Miller (Hampton)

Martha Ellen Miller, 93, died Thursday, November 1, 2018 at the Long Term Care Unit in Satanta, Kansas. She was born July 3, 1925, to Nina Hampton (Turner) and James Dallas Hampton in Ulysses, Kansas. She married Howard Miller on November 30, 1947 in Ulysses. Together, they raised their family in the Ryus area in eastern Grant County. Howard passed away in April 20,1985.

Martha enjoyed playing softball and running track at Ulysses High School. She also enjoyed fishing. While raising a family Martha was involved in the Hickok Club, a ladies’ organization, meeting at different neighboring residences and having lunch or tea. She enjoyed working in her flower beds and keeping a beautiful yard. She loved to bowl and participated on several teams in the area. Martha’s favorite time of year was Christmas, and she enjoyed celebrating each year with her family and especially her grandchildren. She was known for spoiling her grandkids as an act of love for them.

She is survived by her daughter, Kathy Miller and companion David Hesse of Burlington, Wisconsin; two sons, Jerry Miller and wife Cheri of Sublette, and Tom Miller and wife Tammie of Quapaw, Oklahoma; grandchildren, Dallas, Clayton, Christopher, and Caitlin; a great-grandchild, Ezio; nieces, Michelle, and Kim; and several great-nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her husband Howard; a granddaughter, Lindsey Miller; a great-grandson, T.J. Woodruff; and a brother, James Dallas Hampton, Jr.

The family will receive friends from 4:00 pm until 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 4, at the Weeks Family Funeral Home & Crematory, Sublette, Kansas.

Funeral Service will be 2:00 p.m. Monday, November 5, at the Sublette United Methodist Church with Pastor Eddie Pennington officiating. Interment will follow the service at the Haskell County Cemetery.
