Obituary for Meryle B Griffin Sr.

Meryle B  Griffin Sr.
Meryle Griffin Sr., 93, passed away Tuesday, October 6, 2015 at the Satanta Long Term Care Unit.  Meryle was born on September 4, 1922 to William (Bill) Griffin and Carmel Z. Carmichael in Sayre, OK. Meryle married Dickie Darline Cook on July 28, 1945.

Meryle was proud to serve his country in the 493rd 8th Army Air Force Bomb Group in WWII and was stationed in Great Britain. His service record includes 5 Battle Stars. He became a boxer on the Air Force Boxing Team. Meryle went to college on the G.I. Bill and obtained a Bachelors degree from Texas Tech University in Political Science and Economics in 3 years.  After college He became a skilled welder and supervisor during the oil and gas boom in west Texas.  In 1963 Meryle moved his family to Kansas to live his dream farming and raising cattle.  

Meryle was a member of several organizations including the Masons, the National Rifle Association and Farm Bureau of Kansas.  Meryle had a strong faith and was active in the Sublette United Methodist Church and the Harvest Chapel of Sublette.

He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Dickie; two sons, Donald Wayne Griffin of Maryville, Mo., and Mac Griffin and wife Kit of Sublette; two daughters, Suzi Watson and husband Marshall of Sublette, and Darlene Carson and husband Bryan of Arlington, Texas; 15 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; a brother, Mickey Griffin and wife Linda from Friona, Texas; and a sister, Melba Bayless from Lansing Mi.

He is preceeded in death by a brother, Bobby Wayne Griffin; two sisters, Billie Swaffar and Marylynn Douglass

Visitation will be on Friday, October 9, 2015 from 2 pm to 7 pm at Weeks Family Funeral Home, 1547 Road 190, Sublette Ks. 

Funeral Services will be held Saturday, October 10th, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at the Sublette United Methodist Church with burial to follow at Banner Cemetery.
