Obituary for Patricia Ann Turner (Smith)

Patricia Ann Turner (Smith)
Patricia Ann “Granny Pat” (Smith) Turner, 70, passed away Saturday, May 20, 2017, at St. Catherine Hospital, Garden City, Kansas. She was born on March 3, 1947, in Las Animas, Colorado, to Maude Ellen (Kerr) and George H. Smith, Jr.

Pat was employed at Sublette Presto for more than 25 years. She enjoyed the daily coffee groups and the many customers that became her friends. Pat watched many children grow from infancy to adulthood during her years behind the counter at Presto.  She bonded with them and there was always a friendly, if not slightly ornery, banter when they came in the store. Through interactions such as these, she made many friends and formed lasting relationships within the community. Pat's mission to ensure no neighborhood cat went hungry was a part of her daily routine. She felt deep compassion for any stray or lost animal.

She is survived by her son Jeffrey Scott Turner and wife Mary Ann of McClave, Co; daughter, Cynthia Rae McDonald and husband John of Hoehne, Co; six grandchildren, Chance, Tayla, Wacey, Sara, Riccie and J.W. and one great-grandchild, Spencer; brothers, George Smith and wife Karen of Ulysses, Ks. and Terry Smith of Ulysses, Ks; a niece, Valerie Phillips; and a great-niece, Bailey.

Patty was preceded in death by her parents; a son Stephen; a sister Linda; a brother Douglas; and two granddaughters Charity and Chasity.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 pm Thursday, May 25, 2017, at the Pride of Life, Sublette, Kansas. Cremation has taken place. A private family burial will be at a later date on the Smith Family Ranch in Colorado.

Memorial contributions are to the Pat Turner Memorial Fund. Checks should be written to the Weeks Family Funeral Home and Crematory, and Pat Turner memorial in the memo line, in care of Weeks Family Funeral Home & Crematory, PO Box 1200, Sublette, Ks 67877.
