Sidney Dean Sloan, 86, of Garden City, Kansas passed away Thursday, May 5, 2016, at Homestead Nursing Home.

He was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma to Ethyl (Moody) Sloan and Sidney Calvin Sloan on June 5, 1929. Sidney was a veteran of the Navy Seabee. He married Rose Hawkins on November 9, 1952, in Newton, Kansas. Rose died on March 27, 1998.

Survivors include two daughters, Cindy Etheridge of Garden City, Kansas and Karen Needles and husband Don of Collegepark, Maryland; and a adopted daughter, Becky Sullivan of Garden City, Kansas; grandchildren, Ben & Rubina Needles, Roberta Williams, Kevin & Adam Etheredge; great grandchildren, Armann and Shawn Needles and Maya Williams; a sister Deloris Thompson, Boise, Idaho;

Preceded in death his wife Rose; a son, Sidney E. Sloan; a brother William Sloan.

Sidney was employed as a plumber and a pipe-fitter throughout the years and was also an Instructor for those occupations. He was member of the Sheriff's Association, and a member of the Steam Fitter & Plumbers Union.

Memorial Service will be held Sunday, June 5, 2016, at 2:00 pm at the Seventh Day Adventist Church, Pittsburg, Ks, with burial to follow at Highland Park Cemetery in Pittsburg, Kansas.

In lieu of flowers the family request memorial contributions to the Broken Arrow Ranch Scholarships for Camps, 3440 Urish Road, Topeka, Kansas 66614, Attention; Trust Services Department.
