Barbara Lee  Wood (Dawson)
Barbara Garrison Wood passed away on April 15, 2017 at the Meade District Hospital, Meade, Kansas. She was the daughter of William (Bill) and Elizabeth “Betty” (Nolte) Dawson. She was born December 23, 1928, Pueblo, Colorado. She attended Sublette High School and several years later was accepted in the nursing program at Frank Phillips College, Borger, Texas. She began working at the Sublette Hospital in 1959 for Dr. A. H. Thiemann; 8 years at Satanta District Hospital, 5 years in Wichita at St. Joesph Hospital, Wichita Clinic, staff relief for Nursing Homes, Home Health, Private Duty Care and other medical care providers; 8 years at Liberal Hospital and 14 years working for Dr. Ed Rathbun and Dr. Rick Nevens at the Rathbun Clinic, then returning to Haskell County working at Satanta Hospital and Satanta and Sublette Clinics. Completing 50+ years in the medical profession. She retired in the same building that she started in. She was married to James Carlos Garrison and to their union they had 5 children. Survivors include; daughters, Vanna Peterson and husband, Bruce, Jackie Durant and husband Fred, Ruth Trahan and husband Kim, Beth Mills and husband Dale, and son, Roy Williams “Bill” Garrison, 8 grandchildren, 18 great-grand children and 4 great-great-grandchildren. Barbara is preceded in death by her parents, Bill and Betty Dawson and 2 grandsons. Interment will be at Banner Cemetery. Cremation has taken place. Memorial contributions are suggested to the family in lieu of flowers. Checks are to be written to Weeks Family Funeral Home & Crematory, PO Box 1200, Sublette, KS 67877 with the Barbara G. Wood Memorial Fund in the memo line. A memorial service will take place at a later date.
