Tom Owen Keene, 86, of Sublette died Friday, April 1, 2016 at home, surrounded by his family. He was born February 24, 1930 in Grove, Oklahoma, to Myrtle (Inlow) and Elza Howard Keene. He married Dorothy Joan Bestwick on July 15, 1955 in Arlington, Virginia. Tom and Joan lived in Salina, Kansas for 49 years.
He was a Korean War Veteran and was a member of the American Legion Post #205 in Sublette and Post #62 in Salina, Kansas.
Tom had a love for racing. He helped build the Salina Speedway when it first began and continued to provide maintenance over the years. He also enjoyed NASCAR. In recent years he loved watching his great grandchildren race micro sprint cars. He was a fan of many sports but especially Girls Softball. He maintained many ball diamonds over the years in Salina and later in Sublette. He treasured the quiet time of gardening and working with bee hives. Birthdays and family gatherings were very special to Tom. Spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren always brought great joy to his life.
He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Joan; sons, Tommy and wife Nancy of Vinita, Ok, Randy of Salina, Ks, Roger and wife Alice of Turpin, Ok; a daughter, Connie Vogts and husband Jeff of Sublette, Ks; 9 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren.
He is proceeded in death by his parents; two brothers and two sisters; a grandson and a great granddaughter.
Visitation is Monday, April 4, 2016, from 9am-6pm at Weeks Family Funeral Home, 1547 Road 190, Sublette Ks.
Funeral service will be Tuesday, April 5, 2016, 3:00pm at the Sublette Southern Baptist Church with Pastor Andy Arnold officiating. Cremation will take place after the service.
