Obituary for Ida Jo Faurot

Ida Jo  Faurot
Ida Jo Faurot, 87, passed away Monday, May 23, 2016, at her home in Sublette, Kansas. She was born on March 17, 1929, in Garden City, Kansas, to Mabel E. Lamar and Ed Mitchell Watkins. She graduated from Sublette High School in 1946 and continued her education at Fort Hays State University. She married Robert “Bob” Faurot on August 25, 1947.

She was a member of the Sublette United Methodist Church and played the piano and organ for services for many years. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and past Matron of the Santa Fe Chapter. She was a lifetime member of the VFW Auxiliary in Dodge City and past president of the Sublette American Legion Auxiliary. She was a member of the Alpha Sigma Alpha Sorority. She served 12 years on the Sublette USD #374 Board of Education. She formerly worked as an Insurance Agent with Farm Bureau and the Haskell County Agency. She was a professional musician and piano teacher and was honored to be the organist for the National JUCO Basketball Tournament for many years. She had a love for music and was passionate about teaching kids to love it as well. She accompanied the Sublette High School Choir and many of its soloists for concerts and competitions. She was also a fan of any sport, especially when her kids or grandkids would be playing. She followed them to many a state playoffs. Ida Jo had four great loves; her God, her family, music and her KU Jayhawks!

She is survived by her daughter, Barbara Phoenix of Sublette, Ks; daughter-in-law, Pam Faurot of Cimarron, Ks; grandchildren, Jason Phoenix and companion, Dottie Westphal of Sublette, Ks, Matt Phoenix of Borger, Tx, Wendy Faurot of Cimarron, Ks, and Angie (Faurot) Reay and husband Christopher of Wichita Falls, Tx; great granddaughters Allison Reay and Katelyn Reay; sister, Phyllis Brian and husband Ray of Hutchinson, Ks; brother-in-law, Dick Merz of Satanta, Ks and many nieces, nephews and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert “Bob” Faurot; son, Robert “Bob” Faurot; son-in-law, Jim Phoenix; sisters-in-law, Phyllis Merz and Nina Faurot.

A Memorial Book Signing will be Wednesday, May 25, 2016, 2:00-6:00pm at Weeks Family Funeral Home & Crematory, 1547 Road 190, Sublette, Ks 67877.

A Memorial Service will be held Thursday, May 26, 2016, 2:00 pm at the Sublette United Methodist Church, Sublette, Kansas. Interment will be at the Haskell County Cemetery immediately following the service. Cremation has taken place.
